How do I enable teletypewriter (TTY) mode?

For the additional benefit of turning voice messages into readable text messages, you can enable a variety of TTY modes on your phone:

  • TTY Full: Allows all parties on the call to communicate via TTY messages.
  • TTY VCO: Allows hearing-impaired users to communicate verbally, while verbal communications from the other party appear as text on the TTY display.
  • TTY HCO: Allows users to receive verbal communications from the other party, but sends TTY messages to other parties on the call.

To activate TTY on your device, follow these steps:

  1. From the main screen, tap the "Phone" icon.
  2. Tap the "More" icon, indicated by 3 vertical dots.
  3. Tap "Settings."
  4. If necessary, tap "Other call settings" or "Accessibility."
  5. Tap "TTY mode." Then, tap the desired TTY mode.
    • Note: This information may not apply to all devices. To find out if you can use TTY with your device and service plan, check with your carrier.
